Adab Colloquium

Launched in 2020, the Adab Colloquium brings together scholars of Islamicate languages who study the cross-cultural, transregional phenomenon of adab.

Gender and Body Politics

In conversation with artists from the Middle East and North-Africa as well as its diasporas, the series examines intersecting inequalities and body politics expressed, represented and transgressed in both visual and performance art. The series will span a two year period - 2022 through 2024 - and will both feature artists online and host in-person events. Exhibitions & performances will complement the series in locations around NYC and Providence.

Ifriqiyya Colloquium

Launched in 2010, the Ifriqiyya Colloquium is organized as both a seminar and a discussion group, and is dedicated to giving historical depth to the study of Africa at Columbia, focusing on the period that preceded Western domination of Africa.

Islamic History Workshop

Launched in 2016, the workshops feature leading scholars from across a variety of disciplines who come together for detailed discussions of their current research. Events will be posted as they are scheduled.

Shari’a Workshop

Launched in 2015, the Shari’a Workshop engages graduate students and faculty in intensive discussions of new research by leading specialists invited from the US and abroad.
