Fellowships and Grants

MEI is committed to creating access to opportunities for research, study, and personal development for all students, scholars, and academics.


MEI Opportunities

  • The Aga Khan / Columbia University Dual Degree Student Fellowship: The full scholarship will be awarded to one outstanding student each fall beginning the dual degree program to cover tuition for the 2 year program.

  • FLAS Fellowship: MEI is designated by the U.S. Department of Education to award Foreign Language and Area Studies (FLAS) Fellowships.

  • Theodore de Bary Language Study Fellowship: MEI has created this fellowship for intensive undergraduate language study (Arabic, Hebrew, Persian, or Turkish) for non-US citizens to access language learning opportunities similar to those available through the FLAS.

  • Language Support: MEI offers a variety of opportunities for students to improve their language skills in Arabic, Hebrew, Kurdish, Persian, and Turkish through scholarships and fully funded language practice.

  • Conference Travel Grants: MEI has created a conference travel grant for doctoral candidates presenting papers at academic conferences.
