Tahira S. Khan
Tahira S. Khan holds a Ph.D. degree in International Studies from the University of Denver (US) and M. A. degree in Political Science from Villanova University (US). Dr. Khan’s regional specialization is in the area of women and politics in South Asia. The main focus of her teaching and research has been on religion, women’s issues and violence against women in history. Dr. Khan has vast experience of graduate level teaching on the subject of gender, politics and religion in various US and Pakistani universities. Besides her teaching career, she has held position of the Convener of the Program on Women’s Participation in Political Processes at the Asia Pacific Forum on Women Law and Development (APWLD) in Thailand from 1998-2005. Dr. Khan is a human rights activist at national and regional level.
She has published an award-winning book on the topic of violence against women entitled Beyond Honour: A Historical Materialist Explanation of Honour Related Violence. (Oxford University of Press: 2006). Further, to her credit are numerous articles and reports published in various national and international journals. Khan has been on the editorial boards of various scholarly journals and publishing houses.
Currently, Dr. Khan is completing her book on the topic of students’ resistance movement in Pakistan (1964-1984) which is expected to be published by December 2025. Besides, her second book project is in progress which focuses on the topic of religious and secular activism of Muslim women in South Asia and Middle East.
