Student Housing

There are a variety of housing options around Columbia University for students. Most students choose to find housing off campus but there is also Columbia-managed housing available.

On Campus Housing

On campus housing for graduate, professional, and General Studies students is managed by the University Apartment Housing (UAH) division of Columbia University Residential Operations.

Columbia Residential manages more than 150 apartment buildings, with most units located in the Morningside Heights, Manhattan Valley and Manhattanville neighborhoods, between 103rd Street and 125th Street within easy walking distance of the Columbia campuses.. University housing is also located in Riverdale, the Bronx, 20 minutes from campus by shuttle bus.

Most students are housed in apartment shares but one bedroom and studio apartments are also available in limited supply. There are also a small number of larger units that are suitable for families with children. Only students with dependent children may live in one of these apartments.

To be eligible to receive housing you must be registered as a full-time student. Master’s students in the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences are limited to one year in student housing, starting from first date of registration.

Off Campus Housing

Columbia's Off-Campus Housing Assistance (OCHA) office assists Columbia students and affiliates in their search for rental housing in the metropolitan area. OCHA manages a database known as the Housing Registry which includes available rooms and apartments in non-Columbia-owned buildings as well as sublets of units in Columbia-managed housing. Students, faculty, staff, alumni, and other affiliates of Columbia University, Barnard and Teachers College may search or list. Non-affiliates may also use this service to list available apartments.
