There are some sources of funding that applicants are automatically considered for upon review of their application by the admissions committee.
M.A. applicants who are either U.S. citizens or Permanent Residents are also eligible to apply for the Foreign Language and Area Studies Fellowship (FLAS), which provides funding for both summer and academic year study.
Students applying to the M.A. program may be eligible for both federal work-study and loan programs. Please visit the Graduate Financial Aid guide and Columbia's Student Financial Services page for detailed information about eligibility, direct loans, work-study, etc. Work-study and non-work study positions are available at the Middle East Institute and across the entire Columbia campus.
You can access a list of funding resources sponsored by Columbia University institutes as well as external organizations here.
